Grenehowe is a large and prosperous village with some 300 inhabitants and a further 250 in the immediate region. The village is dominated by the great tower of the Priory of St Agnes which is said to be over a hundred feet tall. Sir Baldwin Gravelock, who lives on a large estate outside the village, is the local representative of the Earls law.
