Takshendal is the largest city north of the mountains in the lands known colloquially as Norland. It is a large walled city with an estimated population of 90,000 people and it maintains legal hegemony over the lands as far west as the River Marne, though in practice this territory is largely controlled by the land owning Barons. Ten generations ago Takshendal was a kingdom, but the last king disapeared under mysterious circumstances and without any obvious heir. Eventually, after much wrangling, and a few small battles, the Royal holdings passed as inheitence to the minor House of Milcote, and thus the reign of the Archdukes began. The fifth Archduke of Takshendal was subject to delusions of grandeur and adopted the prefix Grand in order to fully cement the line of Milcote as undisputed rulers of the city. Takshendal therefore is officially a Grand Duchy and its authority rests on that legal basis. Because it was once a Kingdom however its laws are adopted every where within its old royal borders
There are seven Baronies on the map, these are Fulkingtor, Doxfortor, Varanges, Wapontak, Overmore, Keresfan and Feckletor. All are ancient houses (hence their old fashioned names) established during the time of Kings and retain wide sweeping autonomy, but they are all subject to the suzerainty of the Grand Arch Duke of Takshendal.
There are two major towns beside Takshendal (which is classed as a city) both on the River Weyr. These are Castelopea to the south of Takshendal and Haven on the Weyr Estuary. Both are belong to Takshendal, Haven is a territory owned outright by the Grand Arch Duke, and Castelopea, governed by the powerful Gismondo family, is a subject territory of Takshendal.
