Overmore
Overmore is an ancient castle originally built by King Olric V of Takshendal to control the Marne Estuary but since rebuilt and resettled by later generations. It has passed thorugh several families since it was founded, but is currently the home of the Earl of Overmore; Phelonius of the ancient House of Grambeline and his wife, the Lady Jacinta d'Castelleto.
To the north is the great expanse of the Salten Reach and beyond that lies the Starshine Sea. To the South is the primordial Morden Forest and beyond that the barony of Wapontak. Overmore Castle stands on a hill over looking the distant estuary. All its lands are comfortably in the east and the house of Grambeline stands alone and isolated but for the huddled village of Snoad.
The villages of Thickly Vale, Snoad, Marriot, Gallowe, Grippen, Knowles End and Grenehowe all belong to the County of Overmore. The estimated total population of Phelonius Grambeline's territory is 5,000 souls. Overmore is not considered a rich holding but the Grambeline family is very old and distantly connected to the House of Milcote. Phelonius Grambeline is also the only Earl left in Norland with all his contemporaries bearing the lesser title of Baron.
There is a wildness to the countryside around the castle. The great expanse of the mire and the wind swept hills which march away to the north east have always been a bleak setting for this ancient fortress and few travellers ever come to Overmore. The surrounding countryside, especially Morden Forest, is rife with bandits and outcasts and wolves can often be heard howling on the winds at night. Folk lore and superstition proliferate amongst the commoners and a great many people in the region refuse to go out after nightfall.
Halkyn Mire is even said to be home to a mystical beast of some kind. Most people refer to it as the Halkyn Dragon as eye witnesses have often reported seeing a large winged serpent flying over the moor. This creature is rumoured to have lived for centuries and in some stories the dragon is even said to have slain a former Baron of Overmore refered to as Meinolf.
